Baltics: Russia should not be allowed to attend Paris games opening ceremony

The Olympic committees of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have sent a joint letter to the International Olympic Committee regarding allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The letter follows in full:

The national Olympic committees of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, along with our sports communities, have been shocked by the war that has been ongoing on Ukrainian territory for two years.

We continue to be dissatisfied with the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board decision to allow Russian and Belarusian passport holders to compete as individual neutral athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

We firmly stand by the previous positions of the Baltic states’ national Olympic committees and are convinced that Russian and Belarusian athletes should under no circumstances participate in the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Estonian Olympic Committee: Urmas Sõõrumaa
Latvia Olympic Committee: Janis Buks
Lithuanian Olympic Committee: Daina Gudzineviciute
