Ukraine UAV attacks force Russia to fit anti-drone cages on submarines – Interesting Engineering

Recently broadcast footage of two of Russia’s submarines shows one sporting an anti-drone cage on top of its conning tower. Colloquially referred to as “cope cages,” these structures have come to prominence on Russian and Ukrainian tanks during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The Delta-IV class nuclear ballistic submarine Tula, the submarine in question, can be seen with its enigmatic new structure in recently published Russia-24 footage. The War Zone reports that this appears to be the first evidence of such structures being fitted to ocean-going Russian assets, especially submarines.
