ICC cancels membership of Cricket Russia

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has canceled Cricket Russia’s membership.

The decision came after the ICC meeting of the board of directors which concluded on Tuesday in Birmingham.

Cricket Russia was suspended in 2021 due to continued non-compliance since July 2019 with ICC membership criteria.

According to the ICC, Cricket Russia did not have the appropriate status, structure, recognition, membership and competence to be recognized by the ICC as the main governing body of the country.

Russia lacked a detailed and fit-for-purpose system of government, including at least a detailed written constitution containing provisions on membership, general assemblies and voting rights, and appropriate related rules and regulations with integrity covering anti-corruption, anti-doping and ethics.

An ICC statement said Cricket Russia failed to resolve the issues and demonstrate compliance following the suspension.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s application for ICC membership has been put on hold until cricket activity can safely resume there.

In the meantime, the global body will continue to provide support Cricket Federation of Ukraine when going through the process.
